“Touring is very, very tough, but there is no one better than Trudy”

David Whelton – Managing Director, Philharmonia Orchestra 1987-2016

Building a visible and sustainable national and international touring presence is key to every performing arts organisation seeking to create an impact beyond its home city.  Easier said than done, perhaps …

I love working with orchestras/conductors, ensembles and performing arts organisations to help them develop and implement a long-term, financially viable strategy on which to build a strong presence across their home and international markets. This work is underpinned by my long-standing experience in the industry and my firm belief that the thrill of live performance, and the human connection which comes from creating and experiencing music in-the-moment, can never be replaced by recordings, downloads or films.  Live performance is a crucial part of our cultural life, and the perfect antidote to a world in which we can feel overwhelmed and overloaded by technology and information.

In my previous role as Director and Head of Tours & Projects at HarrisonParrott, I travelled across the globe, working throughout Asia, North and South America, Europe, Scandinavia and even Africa.  I was proud to lead one of the most successful touring departments in the industry and it was a privilege to work with many of the world’s greatest orchestras and conductors, ensembles and performing arts companies, including the Philharmonia Orchestra (Vladimir Ashkenazy, Christoph von Dohnányi, Lorin Maazel);  Boston Symphony Orchestra (Lorin Maazel), BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (Donald Runnicles), Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen (Paavo Järvi),  Orchestre de Paris (Paavo Järvi), The Cleveland Orchestra (Christoph von Dohnányi), Minnesota Orchestra (Osmo Vänskä), The King’s Singers, Rambert Dance Company, Kodo drummers, Scottish Ensemble and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

As an independent consultant I offer the following services:

  • Creating a long-term strategy for orchestras/ensembles in the UK and international markets
  • Collaborating with an orchestra or ensemble to identify its “brand” and its point-of-difference in the UK and international markets
  • Identifying artistic combinations for the relevant international market
  • Identifying the right international partners for your organisation
  • Developing performance opportunities in the UK and internationally
  • Financial knowledge of all international touring markets
  • Fee and contractual negotiations in all international markets
  • Logistical expertise for orchestral touring
  • Training and support in all these areas for teams and organisations

“Working with Trudy when I was Chief Executive of Scottish Ensemble was key to establishing the group’s international profile, reputation and network. She understood the unique artistic qualities, was willing to take a risk with a new client and knew how to place them with key presenters. I appreciated her professional style and integrity, and admired that she never over-promised, but always delivered results.”
